As parents, we made certain promises at the Baptism of our child, and one of these promises was to bring the child up in the faith. This does not mean that we just drop the child off at catechism class and think that this is the end of our commitment. In fact, what it means is that we committed ourselves to the faith formation of our child and we have to set an example – we have to pray together as a family, attend Mass together, take an interest in what our child is learning in Catechism class, discuss difficult issues, etc. The Church is there to help in this task, but the faith formation of any child is first and foremost, in the hands of us, as parents. Catechism classes are offered to assist in filling the gaps.
The Grade System – in which our children move from grade to grade is gradually being replaced by that of a system of Faith Levels. This means that our children’s school grade has lost its’ importance.

A NOTE TO PARENTS
The ultimate expression of the relationship that we have with God through Christ is by active participation in the sacrifice of the Mass. The duty of us, as parents, is not only to ensure that our children attend Mass, but also to set an example of their faith for by our own regular attendance at Mass.
However, the only way that our priests can recogniseus and our child is by seeing us regularly at Mass, and by our family greeting them after Holy Mass. If problems arise in Catechism for your child and it is brought to the attention of Fr. Sonny, and he does not recogniseus or our child from Mass attendance, then some very tough questions will be asked! The use of Mass Cards will continue to be used this year. This attendance card must be signed by any of the assistants during the Mass or those persons on the Sanctuary (Minister of the Word, Minister of Holy Communion), any priest or Catechist. These Mass cards will be checked by the Catechist and feedback will be given to Fr Sonny.
Our catechists have offered up much of their time in order to assist parents in establishing a strong relationship between our children and Jesus. They have to prepare their lessons beforehand, and are often involved in workshops, training etc in their own private time. We commend them and we offer them our respect and gratitude in the time that they sacrifice and the effort that they put into the continued faith formation of our children.
