Parish News – 1/2 November 2025 – Solemnity of All Saints

✨ Feast of All Saints – 1 November

The Feast of All Saints began in the early centuries as a way of remembering the martyrs whose names were not known and who therefore did not have their own feast days.

It was introduced in Rome on May 13th, 610 AD as the “Feast of All Holy Martyrs” by Pope Boniface IV.

It was later transferred to 1 November for the universal Church during the pontificate of Pope Gregory VII. By that time, it had come to include all the saints.

The eve of All Saints, known as All Hallows (Saints) Eve, gave rise to the celebration we now call Halloween.

🕯️ Feast of All Souls – 2 November

During pre-Christian times, people often celebrated rituals related to the dead at the end of the harvest season in late autumn.

The month of November has traditionally been dedicated to remembering those who have died. The Church begins the month with the Feast of All Saints (1 November) and follows with the Feast of All Souls (2 November).

The theme of death fits the natural atmosphere of the northern hemisphere — the harvest is complete, cold weather sets in, winter approaches, and nights grow longer. It is a time of thanksgiving, but also a time for reflection on our mortality and our need for God’s mercy.

⚱️ Columbarium

Dear brothers and sisters, we are privileged to have a sacred space on our parish property where we may place the ashes of our deceased loved ones.

On the Feast of All Souls (2 November), we commemorate all our departed brothers and sisters.

Currently, we are running out of space and niches, and we continue to receive many requests. Some niches have been reserved but not yet paid for.

Due to the urgent need, we kindly request that those who have reserved niches make payment as soon as possible to secure their space.
