⛪ Understanding the “Possession of the Chair”
Taking possession of the cathedral, or cathedra, is a solemn Catholic ceremony where a new bishop officially sits on his chair in his mother church. This act symbolizes his authority to teach, pastor, and unite the diocese, marking the formal assumption of his pastoral responsibilities and leadership.
Key Significance and Symbolism
The Cathedra (Chair)
The word cathedral comes from cathedra, meaning “seat,” which represents the bishop’s teaching authority and magisterium, inherited from the Apostles.
Symbol of Authority
By sitting in this chair, the bishop indicates his role as the chief shepherd responsible for guiding the faithful in faith, hope, and charity.
Ritual Elements
The bishop usually wears his miter and holds a pastoral staff (crosier) when taking this position.
Responsibility
The chair’s often large size, sometimes raised on steps, highlights the immense responsibility of his role.
This ceremony is considered a deeply spiritual event, reinforcing the connection between the bishop and his flock.
🛡 Child Safeguarding Policy
As stipulated in the Archdiocesan guidelines, we remind all parents and guardians that children under 13 years are not allowed to be left alone nor go to the bathroom alone, especially during Holy Mass.

Funds raised will assist the Liturgical Dance Ministry.

🎶 Parish Music Ministry
Do you love to sing?
The Parish Music Ministry, under the guidance of Liesl Wentzel, is looking for youthful and mature voices to join them and share their singing talent at Holy Mass.
Rehearsals are on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm in the church.

🎟 Installation of Archbishop Sipuka – Tickets & Transport
All those who have reserved places are asked to collect their tickets from the parish office from Tuesday 10 March.
Transport is available for those with tickets.
The bus will leave the Church at 8:30 am
and return from Grand West at 1:30 pm.
