Parish News for 30/31 August 2025 – 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

📢 Parish Notices

  • St. Francis Society for the Poor: Kindly requests 1kg Sugar, Rice or Instant Porridge.
  • Fundraising Committee: There will be a cake sale after all Masses next weekend, 6/7 September.
  • Children’s Mass: On Sunday 7 September at 10am – a wonderful way to celebrate the faith with our young people and bring them close to Jesus. A great thank you to our Catechists.

🎉 Congratulations

We wish to congratulate the Holy Cross Sisters and St. Augustine’s R.C. School on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the school.

Following in the footsteps of Mother Bernada, foundress of the Holy Cross Sisters, the convent, after the pandemic of 1918, began taking care of many orphans in Parow. The orphanage was opened and the school followed in the early 20th century. Due to the apartheid regime the school and convent were forced to move to Modderdam Road.

We wish the school and the sisters God’s continued blessings in their work and ministry.

🗳️ PPC Elections – Message to Parishioners

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

Three years ago, in the latter part of 2022, you elected members of this parish to take up leadership positions on the Parish Pastoral Council. Those elections were run according to the Archdiocesan Statutes for Parish Pastoral Councils, signed by Archbishop Brislin in March 2022.

These Statutes set a new structure for PPCs, with designated portfolios, and the coordinators of these portfolios making up the leadership structure. During the election process, parishioners were asked to nominate and vote for people to head each portfolio. Those eligible to vote and be elected must be parishioners, 18 years and above, and confirmed.

The seven portfolios are:

  • Evangelization
  • Liturgy
  • Faith Formation
  • Marriage and Family
  • Youth (preferably aged 18–35 years)
  • Community Engagement
  • Parish Community Building

Now, in the second half of 2025, the term of office of all PPC members comes to an end, and the nomination and election period for a new Council begins. It is time for all parishioners to give serious thought to those in our parish who may be suitable for leadership.

The nomination process begins this weekend.
The Election Handbook is available on request from the parish office, electronically via email or WhatsApp, and on our parish website. This resource will answer your questions and provide plenty of food for thought as we move into this important process.
