🌿 Rise from the Ashes…

We once again begin our Lenten journey with the beautiful tradition of Ash Wednesday and the receiving of the ashes on our foreheads.

A non-biblical legend from ancient Egypt and Greece tells us of the phoenix that rises from the ashes to something completely new and beautiful — a symbol of rebirth.

In the Bible, ashes symbolize mourning, repentance and humility. In Job 42:6, Job repents “in dust and ashes.” In a similar way, we come before God with humble repentance, asking Him to renew us.

Fire has been considered the great purifier, refiner and equalizer; it reduces everything to ashes and carbon and changes things. Yet ashes can revitalize the soil and make things grow.

As we approach this Ash Wednesday and enter the Lenten Season, may we come with humble and contrite hearts so that God can change, revive and renew us.
