✝ What Is the Feast of Corpus Christi?
The Feast of Corpus Christi, also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, is a Catholic celebration of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
It reminds us that, in every Mass, Christ’s one sacrifice of Calvary is sacramentally made present and offered anew for the forgiveness of sins.
While Holy Thursday recalls the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper, Corpus Christi provides a joyful opportunity to honour our Eucharistic Lord through public devotion and worship outside of Mass.
When Is Corpus Christi?
In 2026, Corpus Christi falls on Thursday, 4 June, but is transferred to Sunday, 7 June so that more of the faithful may participate.
The traditional Thursday observance mirrors Holy Thursday, when Jesus instituted the Eucharist at the Last Supper.
Why Does the Church Celebrate Corpus Christi?
The Church celebrates Corpus Christi to:
- Profess and adore our Eucharistic Lord
- Affirm Christ’s true presence — Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity — in the Eucharist
- Celebrate the New Covenant Passover sacrifice
- Deepen Eucharistic devotion
- Affirm the Church’s teaching on Transubstantiation
❤️ Celebrating the Birthday of the Church
The liturgical colour for the Solemnity of Pentecost is red.
Last week parishioners were invited to wear red as a sign of celebration and belonging to the Catholic Church.
What a beautiful sight it was to see such an array of red throughout the church for the celebration.
We wish to thank all parishioners who responded to the appeal. There were many positive comments from visitors about how wonderful it was.
Perhaps this could become an annual tradition.
