Congratulations, Your Grace

On the momentous occasion of receiving your Pallium, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Archbishop Sithembele Sipuka.

May God bless and guide your continued ministry and shepherding of our Archdiocese.

🐑 Receiving the Pallium – The Tradition and Meaning

The Vestment

The Pallium is a circular band of lamb’s wool adorned with six small black or red silk crosses. It rests on the Archbishop’s shoulders, representing the yoke of Christ and the Good Shepherd carrying the lost sheep.

Creation

Each year, the wool is shorn from two lambs blessed on the Feast of Saint Agnes (21 January). The wool is woven by cloistered nuns, blessed by the Pope, and placed at the tomb of Saint Peter until it is bestowed upon the new Metropolitan Archbishops.

The Blessing

The Holy Father traditionally blesses the new pallia during the Mass for the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul (29 June) at St Peter’s Basilica.

The Investiture

The Pope places the Pallium directly on the shoulders of the new Metropolitan Archbishop.

Its Significance

The Pallium is worn exclusively by Metropolitan Archbishops—those who lead the principal dioceses of an ecclesiastical province.

It symbolizes:

  • their role as shepherds of a wider region,
  • their communion with St Peter, and
  • their pledge of fidelity and unity with the Holy Father.

🚗 Thank You

Youth Car Wash Fundraiser

The Youth of the Parish would like to thank everyone who supported their Car Wash Fundraiser held last Saturday.

The funds raised will assist with the Confirmation Retreat later this year.

Men in Christ – Father’s Day Breakfast

A sincere thank you to the Men in Christ for hosting the Father’s Day Breakfast last Saturday.

A wonderful time was enjoyed by all the fathers who attended.

🔒 Security Concerns

The toilets will remain locked during Confession times and Masses.

If you need to use the facilities:

  • During Mass, the key is available from one of the ushers at the back of the church.
  • During Confession times, the key is available from the Parish House.

This practice is followed in several parishes throughout the Archdiocese.

We thank you for your cooperation and for helping to keep our parish and parishioners safe.

🕯 Mass Intentions

Please notify the office before 10:00 am on the Thursday before.

Mass stipends are R50.
