Mass Etiquette

Preparing for Mass

Over time and throughout the world there has been a noticeable decline in attentiveness and reverence for the church, the sacred space, and the presence of God in the Eucharist.

For Catholics, the Mass is the most important and primary act of worship, where we give thanks to God and acknowledge the many gifts and blessings He has bestowed upon us.

1. Remote Preparation

Whenever we attend an important event, we spend time deciding:

  • what to wear,
  • what time to leave,
  • and how to prepare ourselves.

Often we even choose our clothes the night before.

If we spend this time preparing for other events, should we not spend at least as much time preparing for Mass and the worship of God?

From the moment we wake up, we should begin preparing ourselves for Mass:

  • through our conduct,
  • appropriate attire,
  • observing the one-hour fast before Communion,
  • and through spiritual preparation.

Good preparation allows us to appreciate and enter more fully into what we are about to celebrate.

🔒 Security Concerns

Dear Parishioners,

Due to the recent theft of toilet fixtures from the men’s toilet, previous incidents involving unauthorised persons in the ladies’ toilet, and recent robberies at churches in Cape Town:

The toilets will remain locked during Confession times and Masses.

If you need to use the facilities:

  • During Mass, the key will be available from one of the ushers at the back of the church.
  • During Confession times, the key will be available from the Parish House.

This practice is already followed in several parishes throughout the Archdiocese.

We thank you for your cooperation and for helping to keep our parish and parishioners safe.

🕯 Mass Intentions

Please notify the office before 10:00 am on the Thursday before.

Mass stipends are R50.
